The joint venture that is going to be formed will be responsible for the provision of services linked to train logistics

Renfe Mercancias and Transfesa Logistics have been awarded the manoeuvring services of the border freight transport terminal of Irún that had been tendered by the Railway Infrastructure Manager (Adif). The contract, which amounts to 1,321,360 euros, has a maximum completion period of 60 months.

The consortium, that has a 50:50 partnership, obtained the best score in the bidding process, which included an economic and a technical aspect. The qualification took into account that both companies coordinate the operations in the terminals of Abroñigal, Constantí and Granollers, together with Slisa. In addition to this, Transfesa Logistics also manages the manoeuvres at the Port of Gijón, at the Pamplona train station, at the Almussafes station, and at the Port of A Coruña.

Provision of awarded services

The future joint venture will be in charge of the provision of services related to train logistics, which include the manoeuvres on land – inside the facilities related to the Irún terminal -, the necessary operations for pick up, as well as the delivery of cut material in loading and unloading docks, among other aspects.

A freight terminal to connect to Europe

Adif’s freight transport terminal in Irun is located in the Playaundi area and is mainly dedicated to the transhipment of goods from European gauge waggons originating in the rest of Europe, to those of Iberian gauge that circulate in the conventional rail network of the Peninsula, and vice versa.

In order to carry out the operations awarded to the joint venture that will be formed by Transfesa Logistics and Renfe Mercancias, the facilities have seven manoeuvring tracks, formation and European gauge, and fourteen Iberian gauge sections; three tracks under a European gauge gantry crane and three of Iberian gauge and another four tracks for reception and dispatch of European gauge and six of Iberian gauge.
