The Valencia Town Hall Square will be the fulcrum of the day’s main activities. At this site, a large green container will be placed to convey the main messages of the campaign to the population and various activities will be carried out around it.

Throughout 29 and 30 October, children and adults will be able to see first-hand the advantages of rail freight transport along with its commitment to sustainability and the environment. All of the foregoing, through a fun exhibition with information panels around a large green container, explanatory videos and workshops.

The Valencia City Hall Square plays host for two days, on 29 and 30 October, to an array of street activities to coincide with the “Freight on the train” campaign.

On the one hand, residents of Valencia who so wish will be able to visit the space that has been devised around a large green container, where several information panels and a video are located. In this way, they will be able to discover first-hand the advantages of rail freight transport and its commitment to sustainability and the environment. Likewise, they can access the website created for this purpose from there and join the collection of signatures: www.mercanciasaltren.com

Children’s activities

Furthermore, a workshop has been arranged for the little ones, meaning that all families who want to can participate and become aware of the importance of transferring cargo to the train to meet the climate targets that have been set from within the European Union. Children’s activities will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 12:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be carried out in compliance with COVID 19 regulations (cleaning hands and face masks for people over six years of age). The children, through an activity overseen by instructors will be able to fill a whole container with their drawings with everything they wish to “transport”. An ideal and enjoyable day out for the bank holiday.

The ultimate goal is to visualise the importance of freight rail and the weight it should have in the intermodal supply chain, as well as to make the population aware of the need to act in the face of climate change.

A campaign with major backing

The launch of this campaign has been very well received by companies and institutions that see in the train the solution to decarbonise transport. In line with their environmental commitments, they wished to make a much-needed proposal a reality, that of caring for the environment in which they carry out their activity, designing an emissions-neutral intermodal supply chain and calling on society to form part of the change.
